A website and a web application need different scopes

A marketing website helps a visitor understand an offer and take the next step. A web application must also handle accounts, permissions, data changes, and failures. We clarify which job the product has to do before choosing a framework, CMS, or hosting setup.

For a content-led site, editorial ownership and publishing workflows matter as much as the design. For a customer portal, the critical work may be access rules, integrations, and making incomplete or failed operations understandable to the user.

Build discovery into the page structure

Each distinct service or topic needs a useful page that visitors can reach through ordinary links. We scope page titles, descriptions, canonical URLs, sitemaps, and redirects alongside the content hierarchy. Search engines need access to the same meaningful content a visitor sees.

A migration requires an inventory of existing URLs and a redirect map for pages that move. We preserve relevant destinations rather than redirecting every old page to the homepage. Technical setup makes content discoverable; it does not guarantee rankings or replace useful information.

Performance and usability are delivery requirements

Large media, unnecessary scripts, and complex interactions can slow a page or make it difficult to use on a phone. We budget for the features the user needs, check loading behaviour, and make sure navigation and forms work with a keyboard and at narrow screen widths.

Measurements should distinguish laboratory tests from the experience of real visitors. Before launch, we test representative pages and important journeys. After launch, field data can reveal problems that a fast development machine and a single test connection will miss.

Make the launch easy to operate

A useful handover covers editing content, managing access, deploying changes, and identifying who responds when an integration fails. Enquiry forms need validation and a verified delivery path. Analytics should answer defined business questions instead of collecting events nobody uses.

Share the current website, required pages, content ownership, integrations, and the primary action visitors should take. If this is a rebuild, include the URLs and journeys that already bring enquiries so the new site can preserve what works.

Questions before you start

Can you rebuild our site without changing every URL?

Yes. We can retain useful existing URLs and map redirects for pages that need to move. An inventory of current pages and search performance should inform the migration plan.

Will we be able to edit the content?

We can include a CMS and editing workflow in the scope. The right setup depends on who publishes, how often content changes, and whether you need previews or approval steps.

Is SEO included in web development?

Technical foundations such as crawlable pages, metadata, canonical URLs, sitemaps, and redirects can be included in the build. Ongoing research, original content, and promotion are separate work that should have their own plan and measurement.
